Tohoku University

Tohoku University (東北大学) in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, is the third oldest university in the country. Its 22,000+ students, about 1100 of them international, can major in many fields, including Agriculture, Economics, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science and Accounting.

Although Tohoku University was established in 1907, its origins go back to 1736, when Sendai's medical school for formed. It was the first Japanese university to admit females and foreign students. The school was closed after the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 2011, suffering damage from the quake. No dangerous radiation levels have been found after the meltdown of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, following that quake.
