Carnegie Mellon University is also known as CMU, and is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. It has over 12,000 students who can choose from study areas including Biomedical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Fine Arts, Information Systems and Humanities & Social Sciences.
Founded in 1900, after the Civil War left unprecedented wealth available for the formation of universities, Carnegie University was named after its benefactor, Andrew Carnegie. The school was created as a vocational training institution where working class people could send their children. It merged with the Mellon University and became the university as we now know it.
